The sports community in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is mourning the untimely death of Baden Boyenko, a talented lacrosse player whose passion, leadership, and spirit left a lasting mark both on and off the field. Boyenko tragically passed away in an accident, leaving family, friends, and teammates heartbroken.

The Saskatoon SR Swat Lacrosse team announced the devastating news on social media, writing, “We are devastated to hear about our teammate, friend, and brother, Baden Boyenko. Please keep the Boyenko family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Baden, we will miss your energy, passion, and dedication to the game of lacrosse. Rest easy, Baden.”
Baden’s journey in lacrosse was one of remarkable achievement and dedication. A proud native of Saskatoon and alumnus of St. Joseph High School and Genesee Community College, he went on to make a name for himself at Lewis University in Illinois, where he played for the Lewis Flyers Men’s Lacrosse team.
During his time with the Flyers (2022–2024), Boyenko became a key part of the program — scoring 84 goals, 57 assists, and 141 total points over three seasons. He served as team captain, helping lead the Flyers to their first-ever GLVC Championship win in 2024, followed by the team’s first NCAA Tournament victory — where Baden scored the decisive 11th goal.
Lewis University expressed its sorrow in an official statement, with head coach Joe Perruzzi sharing heartfelt words about the young athlete:
“Our Lewis community is devastated by the loss of our former captain, Baden Boyenko. He was an incredibly kind person who could connect and build relationships with everyone around him. He was the ultimate teammate and made a lasting impact on our program. Baden’s leadership helped elevate our lacrosse team to new heights, and his legacy will live on with us forever.”
Known for his humility, infectious energy, and genuine care for others, Boyenko was more than just a player — he was a role model and friend who brought out the best in those around him. Teammates remember him as “the kind of person who could always put a smile on your face.”
In tribute to his memory, the Lewis Flyers announced that the 2026 men’s lacrosse season will be dedicated to Baden Boyenko, honoring the legacy of a player whose determination and love for the sport continue to inspire.
As the Saskatoon and Lewis communities grieve, messages of condolence have poured in from teammates, friends, and fans across Canada and the United States.
Baden Boyenko’s life, though tragically cut short, remains a story of resilience, leadership, and love for the game he cherished. His spirit will continue to shine in every goal scored, every game played, and every young athlete inspired by his example.
Rest in peace, Baden Boyenko — a true Flyer, forever remembered.
